May 9 – EARLY AVANT GARDE CINEMA, 7 pm, (Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria, G-6 1001 Douglas St.) Peter Sandmark, Executive Director of MediaNet, former teacher of film production at Concordia University, will introduce present films and lead a discussion of experimental aesthetics. Titles include works by: Fernand Leger, Man Ray, Willard Maas, Marie Mencken, Sidney Peterson" Maya Deren, Stan Brakhage, and Bruce Bailie.

May 10 – 1 pm, MediaNet office, Grace Salez, Media artist and video art instructor at University of Victoria, will give a presentation on personal experimental works and performance art, and lead an exercise with cameras. (Open to EXPERIMENT participants only).
May 10 – 7 pm, (Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria, G-6 1001 Douglas St) Lianne McLarty, Professor of Film Studies at the University of Victoria, will talk about contemporary experimental film/video in Canada, and present several experimental films. Open to the General Public
May 11, 12 – 7 pm, MediaNet office. Kirk Schwartz (MediaNet Technical Director) – Presentation and workshops on post-production and video editing, using superimposition and compositing techniques.
(Open to EXPERIMENT participants only).
May 14 – 7 pm, (Martin Batchelor Gallery, 712 Cormorant St.) Rick Raxlen, filmmaker and former teacher of film production at Concordia University, will give an artist’s talk on 40 years of experimental filmmaking, and show several of his film works.

May 16 – 7 pm Scott Amos (Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria, G-6 1001 Douglas St.) , MediaNet Technicican, filmmaker and teaching assistant at University of Victoria. Presentation on collage experimental films and the use of film in video.

(MediaNet equipment and tech support will be prioritized for EXPERIMENT participants during May 9-30, with some equipment reserved for members)
Filmmakers may work in teams or as individuals. Each
filmmaker will be eligible for support for one film.
(or, a team of 3 could make up to 3 films in the program).
Cost per filmmaker will be $175 (current MediaNet producer members - $150)
